Advocate Endorses Lawrence Romero in May 6 election

Romero: The Change District 6 Needs

by Mike Payne

The race for Georgetown City Council District 6 has current council-member Rachael Jonrowe running against a formidable challenger, Lawrence Romero. In our view, this race is simply a referendum of the performance of the incumbent.

In this contest, Lawrence Romero is the choice of the Editorial Board of The Advocate to serve on the City Council in District 6. Mr. Romero is a ten-year Military Veteran, proudly serving our country for two years in the Army, and eight years in the Air Force. He has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston, and is now a small business owner. Romero also has added perspective having served on H.A.R.C., and as a member of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, and Preservation Georgetown. This combination of military service, experience owning and operating his own business, and local service gives him a distinct edge in understanding the needs of the citizens of Georgetown.

Romero’s platform includes public safety as his top priority, along with limited government, keeping taxes low on citizens, and maintaining viable transportation—the core values tied to the unique quality of life that defines Georgetown. Mr. Romero has also campaigned on the principle that he will represent “all the constituents in District 6,” a reference to complaints that Ms. Jonrowe is not as available as her constituents would like. She recently declined to attend the Texans for Truth forum, where she would have had an opportunity to publicly answer questions for Georgetown residents.

Although City Council races are non-partisan, voters choose the candidate with whom they share core beliefs. Throughout Ms. Jonrowe’s tenure in office she has shown herself to be a bellwether for an agenda that seems more appropriate in the Northeast, rather than here in Texas. She consistently advocates for over-reach in regulations, resulting in anti-small business policies. In the upcoming race for City Council District 6, The Advocate believes it is time for a change. A vote for Lawrence Romero is a vote for unanimity and consensus for all the good things that are happening in Georgetown.
